Coding challenges to transmit and receive short voice recordings.

Description

Primary payload consists of a sensor array that is to collect general data related to attitude determination, and a robotic camera arm which will be taking images of the satellite, the Earth, Moon and other desired celestial objects.

It will also include a digital fluxgate magnetometer to gather magnetic field data of the ionosphere, and is to be equipped with a MIDI audio transmission setting for use in outreach activities .

The satellites will also feature a commercial S-band transmitter for the downlinking of payload data. This capability was achieved through a donation by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), in an effort to give students a better experience and achieve outreach objectives that are very similar to those for the amateur community. This donation comes with the purchase of S-band transmitter hardware and access to two NRCan ground stations located in St. Albert and Gatineau.

Coding challenges open to Yukon youth and the public, using data gathered from YukonSat. For example, students could be challenged to create a collage of satellite images of a certain region of Earth. Coding challenges to transmit and receive short voice recordings. Yukon schools, First Nations, communities, and other groups will have the opportunity to spread their messages to other parts of Canada and the world through a scavenger hunt-style challenge. Data analysis and interpretation completed in Yukon College math and science courses. For example, students could learn about instrumentation, signal processing and data analysis methods while completing an activity to map earth’s magnetic forces using GPS and magnetometer data from a satellite built by their peers.

Constellation consisting of 3 satellites: AlbertaSAT_Ex-Alta 2, YukonSat, and AuroraSat. Together, they form a common mission referred to as the Northern SPIRIT Consortium.
