Description

The overall objective of the Time Flies mission is to operate an on-orbit testbed and demonstration platform for innovative signal and service technology development and demonstration. This technology will lead to TrustPoint delivering commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Global Navigation Satellite System/Services (GNSS) at C-band frequencies.

The mission will use both L-band (Iridium) and S-band for TT&C, and C-band for Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) signal and service demonstrations. In addition, the Time Flies mission will perform multiple experiments related to TrustPoint’s future commercial product/service offerings, including (1) use of a ground-to-space broadcast system to provide Alternative PNT services for LEO space systems, (2) use of a compact laser retroreflector for laser ranging services that promote spaceflight safety and sustainability, and (3) demonstration of a software cybersecurity module to secure uplink and downlink data

The satellite will be launched on the SpaceX Transporter-13 rideshare mission, from Vandenberg Space Force Base, no earlier than 01 February 2025. It will be inserted into a circular orbit at 590 km altitude, on an inclination from the equator of 97.6 degrees. Transmission of telemetry packets via Iridium will begin 1 minute after deployment from the dispenser. Transmission on the S-band downlink will be enabled 60 minutes after dispenser deployment. Atmospheric friction will slow the satellite and reduce the altitude of the orbit, until de-orbiting occurs 3.67 years after the end of the 2-year mission.

The spacecraft is a single 3U XL CubeSat with overall dimensions of 11.7 x 11.5 x 41.1 cm. The total mass of the spacecraft is about 5.6 kg.
