AISSat-4 will be controlled in orbit by Statsat, with the Norwegian Space Center as the coordinator for the construction and formal operator of the satellite.

AISSat-4 measures just 10 x 20 x 30 centimeters and weighs just over 6 kilograms. It is therefore smaller than NorSat-1, -2 and -3, and significantly smaller than NorSat-TD, which weighs 35 kilograms.

The payload on board AISSat-4 will be an AIS receiver of the ASR C-50 type from Kongsberg Discovery (formerly Kongsberg Seatex).
This AIS receiver is of the same type as on NorSat-TD, and can register at least 1.5 million unique AIS signals per day, with high resolution even over heavily trafficked waters.
