Monitor the disappearance of the Plasmaspheric Hiss and the weakening of the geomagnetic field in the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly region, due to geomagnetic storms caused by interplanetary shocks.

Description

Study the variations of two space weather phenomena at solar maximum from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The three main objectives of the missions are the following:

  1. Science: study the variations of two space weather phenomena during interplanetary shocks and geomagnetic storms.
  2. Space weather: provide monitoring of both phenomena in a solar maximum.
  3. Technological breakthrough: Demonstrate the capability and utility of CubeSats in high radiation environments in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

Satellite missions are exposed to a variety of space weather phenomena that help or hurt their lifespan. One of them is the Plasmaspheric Hiss (PH), which benefits the satellites that orbit in the Radiation Belts, since they clean the energetic particles. On the other hand, the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA) damages the missions that pass through its region due to the agglomeration of high-energy particles.

The main scientific objective of CHASQUI-II is to advance in the quantitative and qualitative understanding of the disappearance of the PH and the weakening of the SAMA geomagnetic field in interplanetary shocks. CHASQUI-II will study: a. The attenuation of the PH in a solar maximum. b. The Power Spectral Density (PSD) for the PH. c. The weakening of the geomagnetic field in the SAMA at a solar maximum. d. Payload modeling in SAMA.
