Detecting plastic waste in the Mediterranean Sea by satellite |
| Description |
Detecting plastic waste in the Mediterranean Sea by satellite: this is the mission of the Desdemone innovation program, launched by the University of Montpellier's Space Center (CSUM). The idea is to send a nanosatellite into space by the end of 2027 to track and collect plastic waste before it sinks or is washed ashore. The University of Montpellier's space center plans to send a nanosatellite into space by 2027 for remote sensing, collection, and recovery of plastic waste in Mediterranean coastal areas. Between 5 and 7 million euros are being sought with support from the Van Allen Foundation. |
